Nuestras Manos #3

                 Hello Again!!
It is that time of the month were I get to write more about people who inspire me each day!

For this month, I want to let you know more about Rafael Rios. Rafael and his family own the famous Yeyo's food truck. Also, and as you may already know, he has a restaurant named Yeyo's El Alma de Mexico

Rafael was born in California, but his parents decided to raised him in Villa Jiménez, México until the age of 15. When he came back, he had the need to adapt to a different life style and learn a new language. As he started going to school he noticed division among students, which coming from a new country it is always hard to find a place where you belong. His parents, as many of our hispanic/latino parents, were farmers for more than 20 years. While money was tight, they where able to prioritize their children and provide opportunities for them.

Talking to Rafael made me realize and learn things we should never be able to forget. For example, he gave me (and the youth) the advice to "prioritize our values." He said, "make sure you know who you are" and own your place at the table. But, what does that mean? he continued saying, "don't be afraid to find out about your roots and what is your place in the community." Which it's very true because through his food and restaurant, he is been able to enhance the community around him by sharing his authenticity through his delicious Mexican food.

He also advice me to "work hard in doing whatever you want to do in life." To become your best self, one must have grit and an open mind to be able to keep learning.

I hope this little means a lot to you.... until next month.
